The season is off to a fantastic start beginning over the Memorial Day Weekend. The new Cape Cod Canal Region Visitor Center by the Sagamore Bridge averaged over 200 people per day and over 100 people per day stopped into the Buzzards Bay Railroad Station Center. Both Centers are staffed with trained personnel and are now open seven (7) days a week through October.
The average number of visitors this year thus far has increased over last year by about 4%. We hope that transcends into more people spending their dollars here in the region. Local chambers across Cape Cod operate sixteen (16) visitor centers that service hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. These centers help generate business that would otherwise go elsewhere. Tourism and economic development go hand-in-hand
and is a significant part of the Cape's overall economy. Our job is to make sure we continue to provide these types of services to both tourists and residents.
